Wool velour by the metre
In the cold season, a cosy coat made of wool fabrics is the perfect companion! Coat wool keeps you warm, is breathable and impresses with its high wearing comfort.
We offer you a wide variety of wool velour in different weight classes and colour variations – there is something suitable for every sewing project. If the right wool fabric for your coat sewing project is not included or if you are unsure about the selection, feel free to send a message to our fabric consultation!
Important properties of coat wool / wool velour
Compared to other materials such as polyester, linen or even cotton, wool fabrics generally feel softer and warmer to the touch. Coat fabrics therefore offer you high wearing comfort.
Especially in winter, the fabrics are very popular due to their insulating effect, as they store warmth and protect against the cold. Even in fog, snow or light drizzle, coat wool convinces with its natural properties: it absorbs up to 30% of its own weight in vapour before it feels damp, and it absorbs water in droplet form only slowly (hydrophobic).
Coat wool fabrics can be processed with or without lining fabric. Thicker wool fabrics keep their shape very well even without lining. Advantages of a lining fabric can be, for example, a waterproof layer through a climate membrane or improved heat insulation. Whether a lining is necessary can usually be determined well based on the desired sewing pattern.

Care instructions
Wool fabrics have good natural self-cleaning properties, so we recommend hanging the fabric loosely in fresh air for cleaning – and doing this regularly. Most odours will disappear on their own.
Smaller stains and dirt should be removed locally with cold water. If a complete wash is necessary, we recommend gentle hand washing with cold water and a special wool detergent. In general: coat wool should always be cared for as gently as possible.
For each wool fabric we also provide individual care instructions in the product description.
