What is aramid?
Aramid refers to synthetic fibres that are used in protective clothing and accessories due to their low density and high strength. These are modified polyamides. The name aramid comes from the term aromatic polyamide.
What is Kevlar®?
Kevlar® refers to a particularly robust and heat-resistant aramid fibre. The synthetic material was first developed by the company DuPont™ in 1965 and has been used in various areas of protective clothing since the 1970s.
Important properties of Aramid Kevlar® fabrics
Kevlar® fabrics are puncture and cut resistant due to their high tensile strength. According to DuPont™, Kevlar® fibres are five times stronger than steel for the same weight. The strong material therefore offers great added value for protective clothing of all kinds.
It is also important that the fibres have a relatively light weight and are therefore comfortable to wear.
Depending on the design, Kevlar® fabrics are very temperature-resistant and can retain their original shape even at temperatures of up to 400° due to their high melting point.
Raw aramid fabrics are yellow and discoloured by light due to their low UV resistance, becoming slightly darker in the process. UV radiation also means a slight loss of strength, so the fabric should be stored and processed as protected as possible.

Care instructions
Due to the very different fabrics and the fact that the fabrics are sometimes used as an intermediate layer for new items of clothing, it is particularly important to observe the care symbols for the individual items.
As mentioned at the beginning, it is important to protect the raw aramid fabrics (recognisable by their yellow colour) from UV radiation.
