Corduroy fabrics by the metre

Due to their robustness, corduroy fabrics have always been very popular, especially for workwear and children's clothing. Many of us still have fond memories of the classic carpenter's outfit made of black corduroy from our childhood days. But corduroy has also become very popular again for normal men's and women's fashion in recent years.

We offer various fine corduroy and wide corduroy fabrics to suit your individual taste. If you still can't find the right corduroy fabric for you, please get in touch with our fabric consultants and we'll do our best to find the perfect fabric for you!

Important properties and the production of corduroy fabrics

A beautiful corduroy fabric can always be easily recognised by its ribbed structure. These ribs are created when the fabric is woven using the so-called corduroy weave. The number of these longitudinal ribs also determines the name of the respective corduroy fabric. A distinction is made between wide corduroy, Manchester and fine corduroy:

  • Wide corduroy: 10 to 25 ribs on a fabric width of 10 cm
  • Manchester: 25 to 40 ribs on a fabric width of 10 cm
  • Fine corduroy: More than 40 ribs on a fabric width of 10 cm

Corduroy fabrics are usually made from 100% cotton and are breathable. In some fabrics, a proportion of elastane is woven in to make the fabric a little more elastic and comfortable.

In addition to the longitudinal stripe structure, corduroy is also characterised by its velvety and soft surface. Just like a normal velvet fabric, you can recognise the direction of the stripes by running your hand over the fabric.

The fabric is particularly suitable for clothing as it is easy to care for, durable and hard-wearing. Depending on the thickness of the fabric, corduroy is suitable for both cool and warm temperatures, but in general the fabric has a warming character.

Care instructions

Corduroy is best washed on a gentle cycle at 30 °C. To dry, hang the fabric loosely and allow it to air dry. Due to the velvety surface, the fabric should only be ironed on the wrong side and the iron temperature should be set to not hot (ironing with 1 point).

In individual cases, however, it is always important to observe the care instructions for the respective garments or fabrics, as finishing, different processing methods or blended yarns can result in different care requirements.
